03: Niceties (Forward dated to the 22rd)
[Daryl takes to the earpieces about mid-morning.]
Alright, so it looks like most of us have been settling in at one of two places. The Hotel and the Warehouse. Some of you have taken yourselves elsewhere and as long you got shelter and can defend it, you're okay.
For those that ain't in the know, the Warehouse is this old building some of us found near the wall on the edge of the lake. Sound walls, one of them iron fences around the parking lot got them spikes on the top. Turned into loft space before everything went the way it did. Point is, we found a storm drain that's bringing water in pretty directly. So we got plenty of that for boiling. We got a fence we can defend. Room inside that to start a garden. Plenty of space inside for them that wants it. Found a bedding store, gonna be dragging some mattresses over from there...
[Not being all together was a little frustrating, but there was so much room and no walkers in the city (that they'd found so far), so it wasn't as worrisome. And hell, if the hotel got compromised, those that were there could find refuge in the warehouse.]
We got ourselves a friend that landed alone last week. Brought me something of a peace offering couple days back, after Newt went and got himself stuck up a tree.
[And the day Daryl yelled at everyone.]
Good sized deer. Been smoking the meat so it'll keep. Most of it's ready. You want some, you can come get some. Plenty to go around and deer's worth the effort of making the walk.
[Anything else he needed to bring up? ...oh, right.]
For those that need to be concerned about it [Alex], tonight is the first night of this month's full moon.
[There. Leadership for the day done with.]
[[action for those partaking in the smoked deer or anything else at the warehouse is perfectly fine.
EDIT: I misunderstood how the lake was butting up to the city, so there's been an edit regarding the warehouse location! It's close to the wall that has the lake on the other side. Not on the water itself. Sorry for the confusion.]]

Daryl, I had no idea you felt this way. [ rosIE NO ] You know, you don't have to feign concern if you want me to take my shirt off.
[ Look, he totally asked for that. ]

( action ) 2/3
Daryl leaned back, about as far as he could without opening the gate back up, eyes widening with disgust and mouth falling open just a little.]
( action )
Just wanna make sure you ain't bit. I don't need to see...
[Daryl glanced away finally, blinking and looking as best he could at anything but her while one hand waved weakly toward her.]
( action )
I'm not bit, I can tell you that much. It was from a knife.
( action )
Need to see it.
( action )
Alright, alright.
[ Without anymore fuss, Rose unbuttons the top of her shirt to reveal just enough of the stab wound in the center of her chest. It was obviously meant for her heart though that's definitely not anything she's inclined to talk about. It's still a little overly red and slightly swollen, but otherwise there's only a tinge of the infection that was present before. ]
( action )
She probably didn't know how to treat it.]
Who attacked you?
( action )
Some asshole. [ Ah, yes. So. Anyone, basically. She tries to be flippant about it, too, but it's clear this isn't something she really wants to talk about. Just gonna' button her shirt back up, btw... ]
It happened back home though, so. No one here. [ In case that was what he might be worried about. ]
( action )
Daryl stared for another moment before giving a grunt and finally moving. Walked past her - gave her a wide berth, too - and headed for the door to the warehouse. Waved his hand for her to follow.]
( action )
She sees that distance he provides and gives a small snicker at it. But she does follow right after him. ]
Yo, uh... If you need me to do anything in return for the food or whatever, I don't mind. I'm happy to pull my weight. [ REST IS FOR THE WEAK ]
( action )
[He called back over his shoulder as he led her inside. The warehouse had, as he'd said, been turned into loft housing before the turn. And the ground floor was mostly taken up by the old reception, offices, and other 'condo amenities' as well as the stairwells to the upper floors. All of it with open ceiling and built-in walls that didn't close off the space so the exposed duct work and other 'industrial' elements were on display. The firepit for general cooking, and the smoking in particular, had been set up against the far wall, under an opening to one of the heating ducts. Using it for ventilation of the excess smoke.
The shares of meat had been wrapped in the cloth of a former bedsheet. White and cleaned up before being cut into one foot squares. Each package was tied off with elastic hairbands in lieu of the twine he still hadn't found a good supply of.
Daryl had a pile of the meat packages Athena had bundled for him. Not as much as he'd had earlier, since he'd given quite a bit out for those living in the hotel. But still plenty to go around. He grabbed one of the bundles and held it out to her.]
( action )
I can, for a little bit.
[ Which isn't necessarily to say that she will for a while. It's a nice set up. Staying here, with these people, would be easier but... Complacency follows comfort and that's how things always went wrong before. This place might be different -- or so she wants to tell herself -- but that's easier said than believed. ]
I don't wanna' throw off the groove of what you all got going on here or anything by sticking around too long. [ Which is a piss poor excuse and she knows it. Excuses are simpler than the truth though. ] I just don't feel right getting something for nothing is all.
( action )
[He turned away from her and did a quick count of what was left.]
What's in your right pocket? Pull it out and show me.
( action )
Oh, uhm-
[ The blond fishes into her right pocket. What is in there? She yanks out... (1) a guitar pick, (2) some pocket lint, and (3) some really smooshed hostess zingers. ]
That's about it, nothing special.
( action )
All of it. Hand it over.
( action )
[ Not like it does any good without her guitar, but still. grumble grumble fine, this is her handing it all over. He can have those gross chocolate snacks anyway. ]
( action )
Now you ain't owe me nothin' for this.
( action )
That's nowhere near enough. [ Part of it was pocket lint!!! HUFF. Though she doesn't actually deny the meat that's given to her.
She'll figure something out that's a fair repayment. ]
( action )
That's plenty enough. You want more meat, you get more shit to trade.
[She was the one that wanted to trade in the first place. If she didn't think she was getting enough meat for what she had in her pockets, that was too fucking bad.]
( action )
Although. He just answered her question for her, so. She'll use that in her favor. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. ] I will! I'll get the best stuff ever. [ So then at least she'll feel like she earned it. Or... die trying, she supposes. ]
( action )
[He snorted.]
Whatever. You sticking around for a while or not?
( action )
She still doesn't have an immediate answer for that question. It'd be smarter, definitely, to stick with a group of capable people. Lord knows she isn't. At the same time, however, she has a lot of... issues with potentially being the reason for things going awry or people getting hurt because of her incompetence.
Also, y'know. The whole, uh. Not being human thing. That too. ]
Yeah. [ It may not sound super sure, but... it's an answer. ] Just give me tonight to get my stuff all together and then I'll. Stick around for a while, I guess.
[ That gives her a month to figure out what to do until the next full moon, at any rate. ]
Re: ( action )
[Daryl's chin lifted and he gave her another once-over, eyes squinting a bit before deciding she could probably handle a watch shift.]
These are the rules: Everyone but the girl gets a stint on watch for a few hours a day. We rotate laundry, cooking, and cleaning duties. No one gets stuck with any one job of the domestic variety unless they pick it. They still gotta know how to handle a weapon. So if you don't know, you're taking lessons. Other shit you gotta help out with is building defenses and making runs. Runs are done with a partner unless I can trust you to go it alone. That's my decision to make. Not yours. You can figure out your partner, just have one.
[Daryl jogged to the door, opened it, and pointed to the tallest building in the distance (all 8 floors of it)]
That there's the hotel. Some of ours are staying there. I don't recommend it. Ain't as defensible. But it's there. Padme, Thomas, Newt, Dean... Dean's friend. They're ours, too. You want to make one of them a run partner, you can talk to them about it.
[Daryl leaned against the doorframe, turned his attention inside again, nodded towards the stairs leading to the other floors.]
Top floor has half the roof collapsed in. It's no good for living on with the weather and all. But the other two floors got plenty of space. Pick some that ain't taken and it's yours. We can make a run for a mattress in the morning.
( action )
She follows him around, listening carefully... This is probably the most she's heard Daryl talk since meeting him. Guess he reserves it for the important things. She can't blame him. ]
That all sounds good to me. Just, uhm. One thing. Don't put me on cooking duty unless you want everyone poisoned. I'm the chick that blew up a microwave trying to make a mac and cheese cup, so... Y'know. Cooking? Not my strong suit.
