04: Wake Up Call
THEY'RE IN THE CITY!
[Daryl didn't bother lowering his voice at first. This was something people needed to hear. After that quick shout came the sound of Daryl panting for breath and, somewhat distantly, his feet pounding alternately on pavement and mud. Static scrambled the feed for a second here and there when he had to duck under some overgrown plants while he ran. Eventually the sound of something sliding across gravel came and then all that could be heard was Daryl sucking a in a breath before he held it.
The silence that followed was broken by the groans and odd high-pitched whines of walkers converging on his location. Seconds stretched into minutes and Daryl barely allowed himself to breathe just to keep from making a sound. Only when the walkers had finally passed and were long gone did he speak again. This time in a hushed, cautious whisper.]
Not sure how they got in, but I found them in the south-west corner of the city. Near the wall. Didn't see any holes nearby, but I know there are some. Not sure I can make it back to the warehouse 'fore it gets dark, neither. Not without drawing them the-
[Daryl's voice cut off at the sound of glass breaking very close by. A muttered 'shit' was the last thing he said before he was once again off and running.]

-- You alive out there?
no subject
Yeah. Trying to lose them. Got three runners on my ass.
no subject
[ Even if the answer is no, the answer is actually yes in Dean's mind. He's incapable of sitting on his ass while someone's getting hunted and if the most he can do is involve himself, then that's what he's gonna do. ]
no subject
You got anything you can peg them at distance with?
[He'd rather no one have to get up close and personal to help him deal with them, but he's not going to turn down help when he wasn't in a completely desperate situation. Yet.]
no subject
I've got fuck all except for a blade.
no subject
[Yes, hello, sarcasm. Meet sarcasm. Daryl kind of hates that he appreciates that levity at the moment. Why did he have to go and let himself like you again?]
Fine, get your ass down here. Where you coming from?
[Because unfortunately the majority of street signs had not survived. Cannibalized early on for weapons, probably. A lot of the posts were still around, but the signs themselves - hell anything that would make figuring out where they were - had gotten stripped away.]
Gonna try and get to a roof.

Dean would laugh if he was, y'know, not in the middle of booking it. He's not Cas and making it down the steps is a pain in the ass, but he's eventually out of the hotel, hitting the streets and.. not having a clue where he's supposed to go. ]
Good of a plan as any.
[ Give him a second to remember he's supposed to tell you where he is. Because, right okay, a little too focused on zombie lookout. ] I'm at the hotel- gimmie an idea of where i'm going, here.

[Sorry for cutting it short, but Daryl kind of needs to slide across a car hood, get on the remains of a dumpster, and make a jump for an old rusted fire escape. The runners, fortunately, do not have quite the coordination needed to also slide across the hood. That gave Daryl about three more seconds than he'd otherwise have. Which gave him the time to get a hold of the fire escape and haul himself up. Because rusted and crusted with age as it was, that ladder was not going down to meet him.
He caught his breath on the first landing. It wasn't exactly trust worthy to hold him for long, but the runners couldn't get to him or the ladder. Not easily. They were trying to make the jump, though.]
Get to the warehouse and take a left at the first cross street right in front of the gates. Follow that road until you get to a five car pile up. It's past the three car one by about two blocks. Turn right and follow that street up four blocks, then take another left. There's an old fountain plaza. Tell me when you get there. I should be able to see you once I get to higher ground.
no subject
But oh, thank god, you've come back. With a rather impressively mapped out plan of where the hell he's supposed to be, leaving Dean slightly taken aback for a second at the specificity of it before he starts moving again. ]
Warehouse, left at first Cross street- you got it. Give me a couple minutes, i'll be there with the rocks.
[ See, he's funny, too. And on his way. ]
no subject
You got three. Unless I can get this fire escape to go crashing down.
[There's the distinct sound of metal straining from the weight on it.]
...not with me on it.
[He wants to rush on the climb further up, but he knows that will just make things worse. Unfortunately the runners are still trying for the bottom of the ladder and the last jump actually had their fingers touch the bar. Grip wasn't secure, but that was a bad sign all the same.]

[ As Dean waits for Daryl to give him instructions as to where to go, Padmé is lucky enough to catch him not far from the hotel, looking for someone to match the description she was given... and there aren't really that many men who are tall and with short, brown hair -- and who, most importantly, look prepared for a fight. ]
Is your name Dean? [ The woman who catches up with him is dressed in jeans and a heavy leather jacket, a knife on her belt and a long metallic pipe in hand, even though her delicate features and the elaborate way her hair is arranged into multiple buns doesn't exactly speak of a fighter. ]
no subject
[ THIS IS BAD why didn't you listen to your own advice of always going anywhere with at least one other person. ]
Find shelter. That should be your first priority. Thanks to your warning, we all know to be on guard tonight. [ So don't worry about them -- find a safe place and first thing the next morning, they can send out teams to find out where the Walkers are getting in. ]
no subject
[Daryl barked, clearly back on the run by the heavy panting of his breath even if his foot falls couldn't quite be heard due to the terrain.]
Got three runners on me and those bastards are fucking smart! They went looking for me after I hid.
no subject
[ But obviously she was wrong. And it seems he was, too, on this. ]
Where are you? [ Like hell she's going to leave him there when he needs help. Her voice says clearly "I will come there and don't try to argue" -- she's made up her mind. ]
no subject
[Along with being faster and willing to climb.]
Find Dean. He's near the hotel and heading for me.
no subject
[ Obviously. ]
Dean? What does he look like? I don't think I've met him.
no subject
[He hopes.
Sorry, Padme. He really can't give a better description when he's in the middle of trying to lose three runners and their slower friends.
Another muttered 'shit' came across as his footing slipped and he went skidding across some mud. Fortunately he was able to get back on his feet, but he's not sounding so hot.]
no subject
[ Probably.
She draws in a shocked breath when she hears his muttered curse. ]
Daryl? Try to see if there's anything, a house, a shed you could barricade yourself into, until we get there. It sounds like... outrunning them isn't an option.
no subject
[Which he'll do if he can reach that fire escape.]
no subject
[ Or anything that passes as weapons, here. ]
no subject
no subject
[ So the arrows will last him at least that long. ]
no subject
Wait, that sounds like Daryl. That sounds like Daryl in trouble and the annoyance from his previous shouting immediately dissipates. South west corner. That gives her a direction to head, at any rate. ]
So, uh, good job not getting eaten! Keep trying to do that and, uh. Is someone coming to help, by any chance? [ Because she's totally setting out already but he doesn't need to know that. ]
no subject
[Even if Glenn hadn't chimed in yet, he knew his brother. Athena wanted to, but he was hoping she'd do as he'd told her.]
no subject
The more the merrier, right? [ aka hold on dude she'll help too. Even if she can just provide sharp senses for Daryl and the other guys, it's still something. ]
no subject
[Nothing to be merry about. Except that so many were ready to jump up and try to find him to help. That was actually appreciated.]
Where you coming from?
[If she was getting into it, she'd need directions. Well, as best he could give when there when every street sign he'd attempted to find had been stripped away already.]
no subject
[ Everything can be a party! ... Just a really, awful, terrible, no fun party in this case. ]
From the warehouse. Where am I heading? [ Not that she wans't already trying to track his scent. But it's hard when the pungent smell of decaying flesh kind of overpowers a lot. ]
no subject
no subject
[ OVER CONFIDENCE, YEAH. It hides how concerned she really is. ]
no subject
...Don't get yourself killed.
[A genuine sentiment.]
no subject
[ So she's pretty capable. Even if she doesn't act like it half the time. ]
no subject
[Athena's voice is panicked. She had stayed behind in order to not get in his way. Now, she regretted that choice.]
Tell me where you are. I'll find and help you.
no subject
[ He's concerned too, but he knows when to stay put--when it's important to stay put. ]
If I come to you, will you wait with me?
[ ooc: feel free to assume this is after or before any conversation with Daryl btw, just let me know which. ]
[not here]
no subject
[Like hell he wanted her anywhere near three runners.]
Behind them fences is the safest place for you.
no subject
How many of them and how many of you and your people?
