[ Early in the morning, whoever is awake will hear a very panicked Newt over the network. ]
They buggin' run! THEY RUN.
[ He sounds out of breath, and despite trying to speak in a hushed whisper, he's sort of loud due to his panic. Guess who has two thumbs and 100% wants to be inside the walls. ]
Shuck only walking! It bloody climbed a tree tryin' to get at me!
[ A tree he'd climbed and then promptly abandoned when the thing climbed it to get to him, jumping down did his leg no favours nor did trying to run as fast as he could, not that he was going to complain about it like some shuck baby. ]

[He's going to deal with the running and climbing after he deals with getting the boy safe.]

[ But in the process he got lost himself. ]

[And kill that walker that wasn't acting like a walker while he was at it.]

[ But then Daryl goes and says that and Newt tenses up. ]
No, I'm not worth ya coming out here while that thing's running around. You're the only one that knows how to deal with these things. Losing more lives to save one is bloody stupid. If there are more of those, and they head after the people behind the walls and you're not there to help protect them, that would be because of me.
[ It might as well be like the maze, he thinks, if they were still in the Glade, he'd already be considered dead. ]
I'm not askin' ya to save me, I'm tellin' ya they can run.

Can we say that by now they have each others' names, y/n? I'll adjust if need be!
Newt?! [ He'd been on his way back to his makeshift 'home' when Newt's voice came sounding across the connection. Sure, the gruff guy had already replied to him, but Alex wasn't just going to continue on his way and stick his thumb up his ass. No, he was going to help. ]
Shit... Where are you? [ Alex was already moving as he asked, the sound of his steps on paved streets as he picked up speed. He could find Newt outside the walls, but narrowing it down would quicken the process. The fact that Newt's tone was hushed meant he was still in danger from the walkers and that just wasn't going to do. ]
Sure!
[ Currently now? He's crouched by a tree, trying to stay out of sight of anything looking for him whilst he catches his breath. ]

[ But she'll echo Daryl's sentiment of "where are you, dumbass?" ]
Are you still in the forest? How far in?
no subject
Well runners won't bloody do, I'm going back to callin' them Cranks.
[ His agitation and betrayal is evident in his hushed tone. Daryl set him up for failure. ]
Yeah. I don't know. I kept running and trying to double back so I didn't get too far out but there are Cranks all over the place.
no subject
[ Not that "walker" is better than "crank", but, seriously, someone pick one name. Gamora can keep track, but c'mon. ]
Did you manage to get a count on how many "all over the place" happens to be?
no subject
[ He knows she's only trying to help but it's frustrating that he can't be very helpful. ]
No, more than five, less than twenty.

[He's already on his way there, having started his trek to them as soon as he'd been told to move ass.]

Close enough. [ Someone's not getting an actual location, sorry. ] But it sounds like there's already a big enough crew going out, so it may not even matter.

[ He doesn't necessarily answer straight away, everyone else is talking. Newt has sort of grown on him, sharing a home will do that. ]

I didn't bloody think a whacker Crank was going to chase me into the forest. They're supposed to be slow.
[ Is he safe? ]
No.
no subject
[ So guess who is still living under the assumption that he can't get infected...
At least he sounds confident, right? ]

He winces at Thomas's disapproval, more like the SHOUTING IN HIS EAR. But he keeps his voice down. ]
Currently? Tryin' not to die while ya shout in my shucking ear. [ You do remember he used to be a runner, right??? He's not a baby. He was trying to stay close to the wall. ]

[ said with no real fire in it, because thomas sucks at hiding his concern, and there's a shake in his voice. no, nonono, he should've been watching him, he should've been out there with him, and now this. he can't lose him, not again. ]
I'm on my way. Don't do anything I'm gonna get mad at you for.

Don't worry though. I'll keep an eye on you.

[ He's used to the sidelines. ]
Oh, brilliant, I feel safer already.
[ His voice doesn't sound sarcastic, if anything stressed but attempting to be playful. ]

[This joking thing is fun, she can see why people like to do it.]

Are you alright though? I mean, since you were able to send this message, I'm gonna hope you're not dead. [ Yet. Man that'd be a bummer ]
no subject
[ Sorry he had to find out. ]
Not dead yet, no. But alright isn't bein' stuck in a forest with things that run and wanna eat ya.
no subject
I wanna' make sure you're out of the woods - no pun intended - before I sign off though so. Uhm. Hope you don't mind walking and talking. [ Or is it running? ]
